About The Book

A haunting journey through grief, loss, and the voices of the dead.

In the aftermath of unspeakable loss, Jason Marks’ life has crumbled into ruin—his daughter, Judith, is dead in a tragic accident, his marriage to Sarah has been destroyed, and his promising writing career has been abandoned for a shabby apartment and alcohol-fueled despair.

Then, in the darkest hour of the night, a mysterious encounter leads him to Elena, a woman who claims an impossible gift: the ability to channel the voices of the dead. Skeptical but desperate, Jason agrees to record these supernatural conversations for his failing podcast, Echoes.

As he interviews the spirits of Vincent van Gogh, Robin Williams, Kurt Cobain, Sylvia Plath, and other tormented souls, his podcast explodes in popularity. But with each haunting conversation, something sinister begins to take shape. The voices of the dead grow hungrier, more demanding—and the line between communication and consumption blurs. When Elena reveals that the dead have their eyes on Judith, Jason must make an impossible choice: surrender to the seductive pull of grief or find the courage to fight his way back to the living.

Echoes is a heart-wrenching exploration of loss, redemption, and the dangerous allure of dwelling in our darkest moments. With lyrical prose and unflinching emotional honesty, Dr. Emrani weaves a gripping tale about the price of speaking with the dead—and the healing power of reconnecting with the living.

For anyone suffering from the anxiety, depression, and PTSD of life-altering loss, this book is a compassionate gift of hope in the darkest night. Dr. Emrani’s storytelling offers not just understanding, but a path forward through grief’s most harrowing labyrinths, reminding us that even in our deepest wounds, light can take root.
