Afshine Ash Emrani, M.D., F.A.C.C.
Dr. Afshine Emrani is a board-certified cardiologist, author, and educator who has spent more than twenty years caring for the human heart in every sense of the word. The founder of Los Angeles Heart Specialists in Tarzana and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, he practices a medicine that treats the whole person — body, mind, and spirit. Drawn to healing from an early age, he has built a career at the meeting point of clinical excellence and human meaning, guided as much by Rumi and the wisdom traditions as by the latest cardiac science.
Training & Practice
Dr. Emrani earned his Bachelor of Science at UCLA, where he was inducted into the biological sciences honor society, and completed his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego, with sub-internships in cardiology and intensive care. He trained further at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the Veterans Affairs system before earning his fellowship in cardiology at Kaiser Permanente–USC. Today he brings state-of-the-art diagnostics and more than two decades of experience to patients across Southern California, while continuing to teach the next generation of physicians.
Author & Educator
Dr. Emrani authored one of the first medical texts addressing heart disease in women — a pioneering work recognized by former First Lady Laura Bush. His writing extends well beyond the clinic: he is the author of Beyond the White Coat and a growing library of books on healing, faith, and the inner life, and he writes a weekly newsletter followed by a large and devoted readership.
